Prior to joining The Kelly Firm, P.C., Bunce D. Atkinson was the founding member and President of Atkinson & DeBartolo, P.C. which operated for 40 years from 1980 until 2020. He has served as a Panel United States Trustee in Chapter 7 and 11 cases in the Trenton Vicinage of the United States Bankruptcy Court since 1981 and has been appointed by the Bankruptcy Court as its Fiscal Agent. He represents clients in the Trenton vicinage of United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey in Chapters 7 and 11. His clients consist of debtors, secured creditors, unsecured creditors, Trustees and creditor committees litigating adversary proceedings, and appeals in the United States District Court and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. In the Superior Court of New Jersey, Mr. Atkinson has represented plaintiffs and defendants in commercial litigation, shareholder disputes, and contested cases in the Chancery and Law Divisions of Superior Court of New Jersey. He been appointed by the Superior Court as a Receiver, a Special Fiscal Agent, and as the attorney for Court Appointed Receivers and Examiners. Mr. Atkinson has also served as a mediator and arbitrator in the United States Bankruptcy Court and in the Superior Court of New Jersey in cases involving commercial disputes. He was appointed by the Chief Bankruptcy Judge to serve on the Lawyers Advisory Committee to the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey.

Mr. Atkinson was appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to the District IX Ethics Committee where he served for 9 years. During his tenure on the Ethics Committee he was both its Chairman and Vice Chairman. Mr. Atkinson is a frequent moderator, panelist and lecturer on bankruptcy issues for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education of the State of New Jersey and for the New Jersey State Bar Association and its sections. He has been qualified by the Superior Court of New Jersey as an expert witness in litigation involving bankruptcy issues. He has served as both an elected and appointed Trustee in the Monmouth Bar Association and has served on many committees including as the Chairperson of the Chancery Section.

Mr. Atkinson received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Rutgers University where he graduated with High Honors, and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the National Honor Society. He received his JD Degree with Honors from Rutgers Law School – Camden, New Jersey. He is a member of the American Bar Association, New Jersey State Bar Association, Monmouth County Bar Association, National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees and the American Bankruptcy Institute. He was a member of the United States Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1977.
